Howard & Rosemarie Amos
A couple of Poms who are seeking the good life, and escaping the bustle of life in Britain.
We wish to achieve the following:
Enjoy life
Enjoy the company of other like minded folk
Promote the hobby of railway modelling
Promote the use of automation on model railways
To do these things we propose to build premises to house ourselves, any homestay guests and a permanent model railway exhibition, to create a local railway club for any locals wishing to help with the project, or just to learn about automation in railway modelling, and to invite artists and other railway modellers to stay with us for free, in exchange for assistance in our projects.
We have sold our house in England and have emigrated to New Zealand. We have chosen Nelson in South island to settle. We are in the process of purchasing a suitable house with some space for our projects.
Once that is completed I am sure that money will be in short supply, and it is clear that setting up a model railway exhibition on a normal commercial basis is far beyond our means, and would almost certainly be non-viable anyhow, given the relatively low population density in New Zealand. Hence the desire to form a club around the layout, and also to offer free homestay to those seriously interested in helping us. In addition we would like to open a railway modelling supplies shop (as is normally attached to any exhibition) and hopefully offer discounts to club members and helpers.
Naturally New Zealand laws and regulations will be a challenge, but hopefully we can get the appropriate permissions sorted so we can worry about the important things, such as how big the exhibition hall must be!
